GREENSPRING EAST GAZETTE
SEPTEMBER 1997
RESULTS OF JULY 8 ANNUAL MEETING -
The major topics of discussion included the status of our landscaping projects and the repair/replacement of the collapsed retaining walls. Both of these issues are covered in more detail later in this newsletter. Additionally, Ron Bondroff, Alan Fink, and Stan Turk were elected to fill the three vacancies on the Board. They will join returning members Barry Lubman and Casey Parson. Thanks to those of you who attended the meeting in person (or by proxy). NOTE: Next years annual meeting will be held in May so we can use one of the local schools as a meeting place.
ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS -
At the BOD meeting on August 13, the following officers were elected for the 1997-98 year: President: Ron Bondroff, Vice Presidents (2): Casey Parson and Barry Lubman, Treasurer: Stan Turk, and Secretary: Alan Fink.
GSE HOA ON THE INTERNET -
The BOD has taken preliminary steps to establish a WEB Site on the INTERNET. We applied for a listing under "THE PIKESVILLE PAGES" located at http//www.pikesville.com. It will take us a month or so to get our documents on the WEB site. Initially, we hope to put the Gazette, BOD meeting notes, and announcements on our page. Later we hope to expand the services we offer through our WEB site. More on this later when we get our info on line.
NOTE: Summit Park Elementary School PTA and Homework links are already on The Pikesville Pages. Please feel free to browse.
RETAINING WALL UPDATE - -
With the completion of the building of the new lower retaining wall, this project is finally completed! The new lower wall was completed the first week in September. Coupled with the previously completed repairs to the upper wall and installation of a drainage system, this problem has finally been resolved. The wall will continued to be monitored for any movement during the next five years. Special thanks to Casey Parson who coordinated this effort to replace the damaged walls. Also, thanks to all of the homeowners who patiently endured the disruption to your lives and property during this ordeal. If any of the affected homeowners has any further problems/questions concerning this matter, refer them at once to Metro (Dave Caplan) at 410-889-5111. In summation, the new Wall looks great and is a major improvement over the defective wall which was replaced. All costs (approx. $150,000) for this project were paid for by Ryland Homes.
LANDSCAPING COMMITTEE UPDATE -
As the Board explained at the Annual meeting, we were not pleased with the job done this past season by some of the landscaping companies who did work for us, especially with our flower beds. The landscaper came to us very highly recommended. However, we were very unhappy with their work in planting our perennial and annual flowers. Since the annual meeting, additional annuals were planted and a weekly watering program was put into effect for a month or so to try and remedy the situation.
The BOD has contracted with another landscaper (RAR, Inc.) to refurbish all of our beds and plant new Fall flowers in our flower beds. The BOD hopes these additional measures, which will take place within the next month, will vastly improve the appearance of our beds to everyones approval and pleasure. Additionally, this Fall all dead trees will be replaced. Please report any dead trees to Metro at 410-889-5111.
ARUNDEL QUARRY CLOSURE -
A proposal to keep the quarry open beyond 1999 has be killed. Therefore, the original covenant between Arundel and the neighboring associations will stand and the company will cease mining no later than December 31, 1999. Under the covenant, the quarry land is zoned for and will be developed into a small shopping center and a 110 room inn, as well as single family homes and townhomes. The closing of the quarry will bring an end to the blasting, noise, truck traffic and potential health problems from the dust.
MISCELLANEOUS REMINDERS -
ROTTING WOOD on the windows and railings of the townhomes. There have been numerous complaints re the rotting wood on the townhomes. In order for us to evaluate the extent of the problem and see if we have any recourse through a class action suit, please contact Metro (Dave Caplan) at 410-889-5111. Please provide the following information: (1) Name and Address, (2) age of home, and (3) type/extent of problem you are experiencing with rotting wood.
HALLOWEEN - Over the years the BOD has had
requests to "sponsor" a GSE community event. One
suggestion is for a Halloween "event" for children (of
all ages). We support such an idea and think it will help develop
closer ties in our community. However, we need volunteers to plan
and run such an event! Please let Metro or one of the Board
members know ASAP if you have any ideas as to what kind of
celebration we should have and/or if you would like to volunteer
to join a committee to help plan/organize the event. FUTURE
ARTICLE FOR THE GAZETTE - As always, articles, announcements,
